STICKS and stones may break my bones, but words will never hurt me.
Today’s prompt in the 30-Day Gratitude Challenge is words. And much like Albus Dumbledore once said, “words are in my not-so-humble opinion, our most inexhaustible source of magic”.
Our words are important because they give us a voice. No matter who you are, language is what makes us us. They make or break us, knock us down or toughen us up. They can share the love, they can be dependable, reliable and they can be unthinkable. Words slip into every crack and crevice of your character, they stick with you like a tattoo.
I tend to fixate on things, so words haunt me. As a journalist, I tend to think of words in work terms, as a chore sometimes, and not always as something that represents me. But words have a strange power, a power that is easily forgotten.
They say actions speak louder than words, but sometimes I think the opposite is also true. Sometimes when all we have is our words, they can make us stronger than our actions can.
Before you leave, I would like to say a few of my favourite words: “Nitwit! Blubber! Oddment! Tweak!”
